Kalmar ContChamp DC 4160-4560: how many hydraulic pumps does the 1990 handbook give?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

Three gear-type pumps driven from take-offs on the torque converter, according to the 1990 technical handbook, as recorded at HIT SRL. One pump feeds steering, attachment and servo, one lift 1 and boom extension 1 or servo, and one boom extension 2 and lift 2, in that handbook. The RS technical handbook (1996 edition) gives four vane-type pumps instead.

Kalmar ContChamp DC 4160-4180 RS: which hydraulic pumps does the 1996 handbook give?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

Four vane-type pumps on take-offs of the torque converter, according to the RS technical handbook (1996 edition), as recorded by the HIT SRL technical desk. The brake system has a pump of its own, a second pump serves steering, attachment and servo, and the two others share LIFT 1, BOOM OUT 1 and servo, and LIFT 2 and BOOM OUT 2, in that handbook.

Kalmar DC4160RS4: what fluid capacities does the 1994 data sheet give?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

600 l for the hydraulic system, with 400 l of fuel, 46 l for the cooling system, 67 l for the drive axle, 42 l for the gearbox and 21 l for the engine, according to the technical data table of the 1994 data sheet, as set out in the HIT SRL technical cards. The same table gives a hydraulic oil pressure of 18.5 MPa, and the DC4560RC4 data sheet repeats every value, the HIT SRL technical desk notes. The 1995 instruction manual gives 700 l for the hydraulic system.

Kalmar ContChamp DC: which hydraulic fluid and additive does the 1996 handbook prescribe?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

An SHS 32 hydraulic fluid for mobile use at normal working temperatures, with SAE 10 engine oil as the alternative, according to the RS technical handbook (1996 edition), as logged by the HIT SRL technical desk. Where wet disc brakes are fitted, the handbook puts 6% of Lubrizol additive in the oil, to be added only at an oil change or refill, and states that it is not used up in service, as recorded at HIT SRL. The handbook calls the treated fluid chemically aggressive and warns against prolonged skin contact.

Kalmar ContChamp DC: how often is the hydraulic oil changed?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

The hydraulic oil is renewed at intervals of 2000 hours in the lubrication chart of the RS technical handbook (1996 edition), as recorded by the HIT SRL technical desk. On the DRD-S with a separate brake tank, the technical handbook (2004 edition) also changes the oil of the brake circuit.

Kalmar ContChamp DC: how often does the lubrication chart change the hydraulic tank breather filters?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

The breather filters of the hydraulic tank come up for change at 2000 hours in the lubrication chart of the RS technical handbook (1996 edition), the HIT SRL technical desk notes. The 1995 instruction manual and the DRD-S technical handbook (2004 edition) give the same 2000 hours. The hydraulic section of the 1996 handbook gives 1000 hours instead.

Kalmar ContChamp DC: how often does the hydraulic section change the tank breather filters?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

Every 1000 hours, and more often in dusty conditions, in the hydraulic section of the RS technical handbook (1996 edition), as recorded at HIT SRL. The handbook warns that a clogged breather filter causes pump cavitation and drastically shortens the life of the hydraulic pumps. The lubrication chart of the same handbook gives 2000 hours.

Kalmar ContChamp DC: how often are the servo and brake cooling filters changed?

HIT SRL technical desk · Kalmar ContChamp technical card · October 2026

At 1000 operating hours the servo high-pressure filter gets a new cartridge and the brake cooling circuit a new filter, according to the RS technical handbook (1996 edition), as HIT SRL's technical desk reads it. On machines with two brake cooling filters, the handbook has both changed at that interval.

Important — general guidance only – Kalmar ContChamp Technical Cards

The information on this page is general technical guidance based on the manufacturer's technical documentation consulted in the course of work for customers or found in public sources, on published sources on the history of Kalmar, and on reports from technicians who service these machines, in contact with HIT SRL. It is not machine-specific and does not replace the manufacturer's documentation.

Always refer to the operation and maintenance manual issued for your specific machine, model, serial number and configuration. Specifications, tolerances, tightening torques, service intervals and fluid types vary between manufacturers, between models of the same manufacturer, between production series of the same model, and with the operating environment: two visually identical components may be tightened to different torque values depending on who built the machine, and a unit working in arctic conditions requires different lubricants and service intervals from an identical unit working in tropical heat. Local regulations may impose further requirements. Where this page and your machine's manual differ, the manual prevails.

Maintenance and repair work must be carried out only by qualified personnel, with the machine isolated and secured according to the applicable safety procedures.

HIT Srl accepts no liability for damage, injury or loss arising from the use of this general information.
