General guidance only — always follow the operation and maintenance manual for your specific machine.
Short answers to precise questions on the boom, top lift attachment, twistlocks, cab and frame of the Kalmar DRF 400-450 reachstacker, one fact per card, each with its source stated in the text. For the overall picture, see the Kalmar DRF 400-450 technical legacy guide.
Kalmar DRF 400-450: which load handling functions does it have?
Nine groups of functions, from lift and lower, extension and sideshift to spreading, rotation, tilt and levelling, plus twistlock and lift-leg securing and auxiliary functions like the support jacks, according to the maintenance manual (series 1), as logged by the HIT SRL technical desk. The same manual operates them mainly with the control lever.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: how is the boom moved?
Raising is done by two lift cylinders and telescoping by an extension cylinder that moves the inner boom inside the outer one, according to the maintenance manual (series 1), the HIT SRL technical desk notes. Near the end positions sensors slow the boom down, which the same manual calls damping, and feeding rod-side oil back to the piston side, called regeneration, makes it faster.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: which attachments can it carry?
An over-height top lift attachment, a tool carrier for different lifting tools, a bottom lift attachment for containers and trailers and two top lift attachments, with ±800 mm sideshift and with hydraulic levelling, are the five choices of the operator's manual (series 1), as recorded at HIT SRL. In that manual the hydraulic levelling version keeps the same ±800 mm sideshift.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: what does the standard top lift attachment handle?
20-40 ft containers up to 45 tonnes, according to the manufacturer's technical information brochure, as HIT SRL's technical desk reads it. The same brochure gives it a sideshift of ±800 mm, mechanical levelling of ±5 degrees, a rotation of +195/-105 degrees and floating ISO twistlocks, values that the data sheet of the DRG repeats for rotation and sideshift.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: how are the twistlocks operated and monitored?
Two hydraulic cylinders, one in each spreader beam, turn the four twistlocks through linkages, according to the maintenance manual (series 1), as set out in the HIT SRL technical cards. Before any twistlock movement, the same manual needs contact on all four alignment sensors, one per twistlock, while separate position sensors signal open or locked.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: when must a twistlock be replaced?
At 10,000 operating hours, or at once if it shows cracks or other external damage, according to the maintenance manual (series 1), as logged by the HIT SRL technical desk. The same manual warns of material fatigue and reduced strength in the twistlocks, checks them, and the lift shoes of the combi attachment, for cracks every other year or every 5000 operating hours, and refits each new twistlock with a new nut and washers, as recorded at HIT SRL. The inspection to follow is the one in the manual of the specific machine.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: when may the twistlocks be locked and released?
Only with the top lift attachment aligned at all four corners, both when locking and when releasing, and with the container standing securely on all four corners before release, according to the operator's manual (series 1), as recorded by the HIT SRL technical desk. With the bottom lift attachment the same manual wants all four legs aligned and in clamping position, the load liftable for only 4 seconds without correct alignment, as HIT SRL's technical desk reads it. It forbids work if the indicator lights do not function, and the alignment rules to follow are those in the manual of the specific machine.
