Kalmar DRF 400-450: how is the type designation read?
Letter by letter, from the engine type to the support jacks, following the key of the operator's manual (series 1), the HIT SRL technical desk notes. In DRF 450-65S5XS that manual reads the first three letters as diesel engine, reachstacker and generation F, then 450 as decitonnes of lift capacity in row one and 65 as decimetres of axle distance, as set out in the HIT SRL technical cards. The trailing S5XS gives spreading with an adjustable top lift, a stacking limit of five containers, the extra counterweight X and the support jacks S, according to that key.

Kalmar DRF 400-450: what does the letter X of the designation stand for?
Two readings are printed: extended capacity in the manufacturer's technical information and extra counterweight in the operator's manual (series 1), as logged by the HIT SRL technical desk. The technical information gives the whole example DRF450-65S5XS as diesel, reachstacker, generation, first-row capacity in decitonnes, wheel base in decimetres, spreader, five-container stacking, extended capacity and support jacks. Both readings stay here as printed, without choosing one.
