HIT SRL technical desk · Published 8 October 2026 · Updated 20 October 2026

General guidance only — always follow the operation and maintenance manual for your specific machine.

Summary

According to its manuals, the MHC 115 is a rubber-tyred mobile harbour crane on four steering axles, two of them also driving, as recorded by the HIT SRL technical desk. Its manuals give a 63 t crane, a 75 t version and a BDE version that adds electric motors fed from the quay. The 2002 documentation describes the ALC control system, and later manuals describe ESX central units. The Related models section covers the MHC 65, MHC 40 and MHC 20, and the MHC 200 has a guide of its own.

Model identification

According to the documentation, the standard MHC 115 lifts 63 t at the hook: 63/45/25/14 t with a 38 m maximum radius in the 05/2002 edition, 63/45/35/30/25/15 t with 40 m in the 11/2002 and 2005 editions and in the 2004 data sheet, and 63/45/40/25/14 t with 40 m for the 2008 MHC 115 BDE, with a maximum moment of 1200 tm throughout. According to the 2008 technical data, the MHC 115 BDE is classed to FEM 1987 as A7 for grab use, A6 for intensive use and A3 for heavy use, while the use and maintenance manual of the 75 t version gives A6, A5 and A3.

Special versions and the S crane

According to its use and maintenance manual, the 75 t version has hook capacities of 75/45/30/10 t, a 38 m maximum radius, a 39 m boom with a 69 t counterweight, a 468 kW diesel engine and a 450 kW electric motor, and its ALC description refers to a special 75 ton winch. HIT SRL service technicians report that the S of MHC 115 S designates a special, customised version, and that the 75 t version is such a special version. HIT SRL service technicians report that special versions of the MHC 115 exist; where the editions give different values, both are given on this page with their source.

MHC 115 BDE

According to its 2008 manual, the MHC 115 BDE has, besides an MTU 12V 2000 diesel engine of 625 kW, two electric motors of 250 kW at 1490 rpm, 400 V and 50 Hz, which drive the hydraulic pumps from quay power. The same manual equips it for four-rope operation, with four 32 mm ropes of 191 m on an 805 mm drum and a mechanical rope grab worked by two winches, but does not explain the letters BDE. HIT SRL service technicians report that the letters BDE stand for twin winch, diesel and electric.

Control system and lifting equipment

According to the 2002 edition and the ALC description of the 75 t version, the ALC system uses three slave units on the single-winch MHC 115 and four on the double-winch MHC 115, and from the 11/2002 edition the manuals describe ESX central units.

Industrial history and parts supply

According to the manufacturer's documentation, Reggiane was a division of Fantuzzi Reggiane. According to a local newspaper, Fantuzzi took over the former Officine Meccaniche Reggiane works in 1994, and one published source gives 1992; HIT SRL service technicians report 1994 as the correct year.

Published sources state that Terex agreed in August 2008 to buy the port equipment business of Fantuzzi Industries, withdrew in December 2008, returned to the deal at the end of the first quarter of 2009 and completed it in July 2009, together with Noell Crane. According to published sources, Konecranes signed an agreement on 16 May 2016 to buy Terex Material Handling & Port Solutions and closed it on 4 January 2017; Konecranes states that the Fantuzzi Reggiane brand has been its own since then.

Power unit and driveline as installed

Engines and electric drive

The manuals give the diesel engine by edition: a Perkins 3008 TAG 4 of 426/468 kW at 1500 rpm for the 75 t version and in the 2002 editions, and an MTU 12V 2000 of 625 kW in 2005 and 2008, given as 12V 2000 G62 in the 2004 data sheet, the HIT SRL technical desk notes. For the Perkins, the manual of the 75 t version gives a swept volume of 17.40 l, eight cylinders in V and a bore and stroke of 135 x 152 mm, and for the MTU the 2008 data give 23.88 l, 12 cylinders in V and a bore and stroke of 130 x 150 mm. According to the manual of the 75 t version, an electric motor of 450 kW at 1500 rpm could be fitted next to the diesel engine and fed from the quay at 380/400 V through a padlockable isolating switch on the carrier. According to the 2008 manual, the electric motor of the BDE drives the pumps through the pump driving unit and a generator for air conditioning and work lights, and the rest of the electrical equipment is fed from the quay plug. The 2008 lubricants chart gives 72 litres of SAE 15W-40 engine oil to API CG-4/SG and 134 litres of coolant.

Travel, axles and suspension

According to the manual of the 75 t version, travel is hydrostatic through a rotary coupling, with one pump feeding two variable-displacement motors in closed circuit, two ranges of 0-5 km/h and 0-2 km/h and a spring-applied multi-disc parking brake that holds the crane on gradients up to 8%. The 2002-2008 editions give four steering axles with 16 twin tyres 14.00 x 24 in and the two inner axles driving, while the manual of the 75 t version gives axles 3 and 4 as driving, with bevel-gear and planetary hub reduction and 60 t per axle. According to the 2008 data, the axles are spaced 3000, 7600 and 3000 mm apart, with a 4170 mm wheel track. According to the manual of the 75 t version, oscillating rocker arms keep all wheels on uneven ground with a maximum arm stroke of +/-250 mm, and the 2008 data give a maximum wheel stroke of +/-150 mm. According to the manual of the 75 t version, steering is fully hydraulic on all axles, controlled from the cab or the portable board, with an electro-hydraulic inverter that keeps the steering correct for the direction of the superstructure.

Hydraulic system as installed

According to the manual of the 75 t version, a pump drive unit on the diesel engine feeds hoisting and slewing on closed circuits with variable pumps, luffing through variable pumps on a double-acting cylinder with pipe-burst valves, and steering and outriggers on open circuits, with heat exchangers keeping the temperature constant, as recorded at HIT SRL. The same manual gives circuit pressures of 290 bar for hoisting, 220 bar for luffing, 280 bar for slewing and travel, 130 bar for steering and 150 bar for the outriggers. The hydraulic tank holds 1750 litres in the manual of the 75 t version and 1650 litres in the later data and in the 2008 lubricants chart, which gives ISO VG 46 oil. The 2008 manual stops the electric motor of the BDE on the same hydraulic signals as the diesel engine, with defaults of 1500 mbar for suction pressure and 20 bar for boost pressure, and allows a restart after 10 seconds.

Structure, tower, boom and hoist

Superstructure and slewing

The manual of the 75 t version describes a box platform with a central section and two lateral box beams carrying the tower housings and the luffing cylinder mount, with machinery room and winch room in 3 mm sheet steel, as HIT SRL's technical desk reads it. According to the same manual, two hydraulic drive units with epicyclic reducers and spring-applied brakes slew the crane on a roller slew ring at up to 1.24 rpm with a tipping coefficient of 66% and 0.6 rpm above it, while the 2008 data give 1.60 and 0.80 rpm. The slew ring maker's instructions have the bearing inspected by measuring its clearance and comparing the increase with a measurement table.

Hoist winch, ropes and grab

The manual of the 75 t version gives a double-groove drum for two ropes, three hydraulic motors on a three-stage epicyclic reducer, a drum pitch diameter of 1150 mm and two 46 mm ropes of 8 x 36 compacted construction with opposite lay, 176,000 kg breaking load and 185 m length. According to the 2008 manual, the MHC 115 BDE carries four 32 mm ropes of 849 kN minimum breaking load and 191 m length on an 805 mm drum pitch diameter. According to the same manual, during opening and closing of the mechanical grab one winch moves the closing ropes while the other holds the grab, both winches move together while hoisting, and combined opening or closing while hoisting is allowed only with an empty grab. The mechanical grab and the other MHC lifting attachments are described in the Hooks, grabs, tongs and clamps section of the Fantuzzi Reggiane attachments guide.

Boom, tower and counterweight

The manual of the 75 t version gives a welded steel-tube lattice boom in flanged and bolted sections with a self-compensating hoisting tackle and a double-acting luffing cylinder; the boom is 39 m in that manual and 41.70 m in the 2008 data, with the fulcrum at 14 m. According to the manual of the 75 t version, the tower can be lowered to the ground for maintenance or low passages and carries the cab, at 16.5 m in that edition against a 19 m view height in 2008. The 2008 manual describes a counterweight of modular panels removable from the platform, one fixed piece of which is removed for travel with tower and boom lowered. The 2008 manual also lists a rotary hydraulic coupling between chassis and turret and, on the BDE, a chassis cable reel with one electric motor for the quay power cable.

Electrical and control

According to the manual of the 75 t version, two 205 Ah batteries for controls and engine start are charged by the generator, which supplies 380/220 V, and the cabinet doors are interlocked against opening when live, as set out in the HIT SRL technical cards. According to the manual of the 75 t version, the control system shows in the cab engine oil pressure, oil and water temperature, fuel level, hour meter, hydraulic oil pressure and temperature, load with overload alarm and boom angle, with a troubleshooting function and black-box recording. According to the 2002 ALC description, the boom movement output of the MHC 115 drives two solenoid valves in parallel for boom pumps 1 and 2. The manual of the 75 t version gives three operator stations, upper cab, lower cab and portable control unit, and disables the controls of the other stations when the crane is worked from one of them.

Safety systems

Wind

According to the manual of the 75 t version and the 2008 data, the MHC 115 works and travels with the hook up to 72 km/h and travels with a load or a grab up to 50 km/h; on stabilisers it may stand with the boom erected up to 151 km/h, with the boom on the ground from 151 to 200 km/h and with boom and tower lowered above 200 km/h. According to the 2002 ALC description, the anemometer alarm is set at 72 km/h for work and travel with the hook and at 50 km/h for travel with grab, tongs or spreader, and slewing, travel, boom lowering and hoisting are blocked after a settable delay above the alarm threshold. HIT SRL service technicians report that these wind limits apply to all MHC cranes. The wind data to apply are those in the manual of the specific crane.

Load limiter and load tables

According to the manual of the 75 t version, the anti-overload system shows load, radius and working angle in the cab, gives an audible and visual alarm near the limit and, in overload, stops the operations, allowing only load lowering and boom raising. The load table of the 75 t version gives capacities at 75% for heavy use, 66% for intensive use and 50% for grab use, prohibits lifting on wheels and includes the grab weight in the grab capacity. HIT SRL service technicians report that this load limiter and these 75%, 66% and 50% load tables apply on MHC 115 cranes in service. The load tables and limiter settings to use are given in the manual of the specific crane.

Stabilisers and travel

According to the manual of the 75 t version, the stabilisers have hydraulic beams and jacks with independent control and safety valves on the jack cylinders, and the crane is levelled within +/-0.5%; the 2008 manual has the same stabilising chapter as the 2006 MHC 200 manual, with the crane on flat and solid ground. The 2008 manual gives the boom positions for travel: tower vertical and boom at 23-25 m with the hook or up to 3 t, boom at 15-17 m with 5 to 13 t, and with tower and boom lowered the hook only, after removing one fixed counterweight. HIT SRL service technicians report that in practice MHC 115 cranes do not travel with a load, at most with the lifting equipment fitted. Stabiliser and travel data are those of the manual of the specific crane.

Emergency stops, BDE interlocks and earthing

According to the manual of the 75 t version, two emergency push buttons in the machinery house, one in the cab, one on the chassis and one on the portable board stop the crane by braking only, and before restarting the cause must be found and the crane checked. HIT SRL service technicians report that emergency push buttons are fitted on all MHC models, in several positions. The 2008 manual starts the electric motor of the BDE only with the crane stabilised and the chassis cable-reel plug connected, and disables destabilisation and travel while it runs. HIT SRL service technicians report that these BDE interlocks apply on the cranes in service. According to the manual of the 75 t version, the chassis earth receptacle is connected to the quay earthing circuit with a 185 mm2 cable before working on diesel power, and the earthing is reconnected every time the crane is moved.

Recurring failure points — field reports

What the documentation says to check: the 2008 MHC 115 BDE manual checks CAN problems at the connector, the power supply and the 120 ohm termination, then treats unit, keyboard, joystick, radio-control, analogue-input, output and encoder faults one by one. In the same chapter the weight calibration is checked with 17-19 mA without load, and HIT SRL service technicians report that, after a first calibration carried out with training, the crane's own technicians can repeat it on their own through the parameters menu. According to the 2002 ALC description, a non-calibrated or disconnected inclinometer makes the system ignore the intermediate boom limit switches and block boom lowering, and the display message tells the operator why the movement stopped. The MHC 115 manuals carry the hydraulic troubleshooting charts and the signs of hydraulic wear of the maintenance introduction, such as a changing relief-valve whistle, creaking cylinders and pump noise rising with pressure.

Maintenance interval summary

According to the MHC 115 maintenance tables of 2005 and 2008, each job refers to the hour counter of its mechanism, with first and repeat intervals in hours and calendar limits, and note (1) marks jobs for highly experienced personnel; the 2008 table adds the boom cylinder rods, the boom cylinder relief valve and the electric-motor items to the 2005 one.

Important — general guidance only – Fantuzzi Reggiane MHC 115 Legacy Guide

The information on this page is general technical guidance based on the field experience of HIT SRL's service technicians with port handling equipment, on the manufacturer's technical documentation consulted during service work on customers' machines or found in public sources, and on published sources on the history of Reggiane, Fantuzzi and Fantuzzi Reggiane. It is not machine-specific and does not replace the manufacturer's documentation.

Always refer to the operation and maintenance manual issued for your specific machine, model, serial number and configuration. Specifications, tolerances, tightening torques, service intervals and fluid types vary between manufacturers, between models of the same manufacturer, between production series of the same model, and with the operating environment: two visually identical components may be tightened to different torque values depending on who built the machine, and a unit working in arctic conditions requires different lubricants and service intervals from an identical unit working in tropical heat. Local regulations may impose further requirements. Where this page and your machine's manual differ, the manual prevails.

Maintenance and repair work must be carried out only by qualified personnel, with the machine isolated and secured according to the applicable safety procedures.
